Drop Pounds the Easy Way: Using Positive Affirmations to Achieve Your Weight Loss Goals
|
I plan on writing a good many positive affirmation articles here on Joy for the Journey. I'm a big believer in positive affirmations, as they've helped me to achieve many goals in life. So, let's start out by examining exactly what positive affirmations are.
Positive affirmations are short, positive statements that declare who we are or what we want to achieve. When repeated often, positive affirmations help propel us towards our goals.
I'm currently using the power of positive affirmations to help me achieve my weight loss goals (I'm trying to smoke off five pounds!). Here are the affirmations I've written. Later, I'll explain how to write your own affirmations and what to do with them after you've written them.
1. I'm well on my way to weight loss.
2. I'm satisfied, not hungry.
3. I love losing weight.
4. I feel better.
5. I look better.
6. People are noticing I'm shrinking.
7. I can't wait to buy smaller clothes.
8. I've come so far in my journey.
9. I'm not going to slip back into my old, unhealthy habits.
10. I love the new, improved, beautiful me!
I like to write my affirmations in story-like order so I can remember them easily. When writing your own weight loss affirmations, you'll want to tailor them to your specific goals. For example...It feels great slipping into these size six jeans. Or...I will not eat anything after 6 PM.
Keep your affirmations short so they'll be easy to remember. Write each one a 3x5 index card and bundle them together with a rubber band. You may want to carry them around with you in your purse, pocket or wallet. Pull your affirmations out several times a day and repeat them either out loud or to yourself. You should start seeing results straightaway as your mind begins to absorb these positive statements. Repeat this process every day until you reach your desired weight loss goals.

Write It Down, Make It Happen: Achieve Goals Effortlessly
As a writer, I constantly write things down. I write about the problems I'm facing in life in my journal and, as I do, I notice how that not only helps me to relieve my stress about those problems but to try and seek solutions to them, as well.
I make lists of things I need from the grocery store which ensures those items get purchased and not forgotten. Similarly, I pen to-do lists so I remember to wash the sheets on Wednesdays, mop the floors on Fridays and roll out the trash on Sundays.
Recently, I've gone beyond jotting down lists and emotions to writing down my life goals. And, as I do this, it's been amazing to watch those goals materialize in my life. For example, a few short weeks ago I got it in my head that I wanted to shed a few pounds, so I wrote that goal down on paper and three weeks later I'm nine pounds down!
I've long wanted to start my own self-improvement website so I wrote that goal down on paper, too, and as soon as I did a clear vision of what I wanted the website to look like and what kind of material I wanted to include on it formed in my mind. And Joy for the Journey was born!
If you'd like to see your own goals and dreams come to fruition, too, I suggest you start a goals and dreams notebook in which you begin to list the various goals you want to accomplish in life. Then, it's as easy as checking those goals off the list as both your conscious and subconscious minds achieve those goals.

Four Simple Steps to Happiness
So many people turn to drugs, sex, compulsive shopping and other vices in search of happiness. But, I want you to know there are healthier ways to achieve sheer bliss. Here is the prescription I personally use to attact joy into my life.
1. Define happiness. Take a few minutes and write down exactly what happiness means to you. Be specific. When I first did this exercise these are a few of the things I wrote down:
1. A peaceful home (peaceful relationships inside the home) in peaceful surroundings (a home in a tranquil location).
2. Helping others (specifically, through writing).
3. Knowledge (learning as much as I can by reading as much as I can and by trying new things).
The more specific you are with your list, the better you'll be able to focus on attracting these things into your life.
2. Think happiness. Make a concerted effort to replace any negative thoughts that pop into your head with positive, happy thoughts. For instance, replace the negative statement "My wife will forget my birthday. She does it every year!" with "My wife will remember my birthday this year and she'll bake me a chocolate cake-my favorite!" The more you consciously practice replacing negative statements with positive ones the easier and more natural it will become.
3. Create happiness. Instead of waiting for happiness to come to you, create it! You can choose to create happiness in any circumstance-whether it be the first day on a new job or sitting around the dinner table with squabbling family members-or you can choose to create sadness, anger or frustration. People and circumstances don't contol our emotions-we do!
4. Share happiness. One way to ensure your happiness is by sprinkling bits of happiness into the lives of others around you. What we put out in life comes back to us. We can choose to put out anger, frustration and sadness (negative feelings) or we can choose to put out happiness, enthusiasm and love (positive feelings). I don't know about you, but I prefer to receive love from people so I try hard to share positive love vibes!
If you practice the four steps above on a regular basis, I predict abundant happiness manifesting itself in your near future. Enjoy!

Ten Positive Affirmations for Artists
Lately, I've been questioning my artistic abilities. 2. My artwork gets better every day.
3. The more time I spend practicing my art, the better results I see.
4. Anyone can be an artist!
5. Being an artist is a state of mind.
6. Anyone can draw...it's simple to learn!
7. Soon my sketchbook will be filled with sketches I'll be proud to share with the world.
8. I proudly sign my name at the bottom of every sketch I complete.
9. I can't wait to wake up in the morning and draw!
10. My passion for drawing rubs off on other people and I love inspiring them to pursue their artistic dreams.
